Crimsonland v1.9.8
Quest Guide
(Crimsonland Icon)
Crimsonland is a top-down, 2D, arena shooter game with
OpenGL graphics and effects. Controls are basic: move and fire independently in any direction, simultaneously.
As the player, you are trapped in a limited world and your only goal is survival. Kill everything that moves, as the
enemies move in to end your life. In order to "unlock" all the many weapons and perks of the game, you need to
complete the Quest mode first, and that is what this guide is supposed to help with.
1.1 A very easy introductory level. There are about 12 weak green aliens to kill. 1.2 Nearly the same as 1.1, only more aliens and a larger alien that takes a few more shots to bring down. 1.3 Here, weak aliens will spawn onto the map in a circle. Just stand where you begin in the middle of the screen and
take them out as they arrive. You can do this with just the pistol, but grabbing some of the powerups will give you
a higher score. 1.4 There are several small groups of aliens in this level. Once one group is down, another will come in from a
different direction. 1.5 This level introduces the spawner or "farm" which produces more enemies as long as it is alive. There will be 2
at first to deal with, and they can absorb a fair amount of damage before dying. Once those two are finished, watch
for 3 more to appear. 1.6 As the title suggests, here is where you get your first taste of the panic and adrenaline rush that makes
Crimsonland so much fun. Random aliens will come at you from all directions. At first it will be just a few,
but then more and more. Better get a better weapon than the pistol, preferably something with a high rate
of fire like a submachine-gun or assault rifle. 1.7 Here you'll meet the spiders. In this level they will always be coming from the left side. Get used to the
way they move and stop because you'll be seeing a lot of them. They can surprise you when you don't notice that
one is paused nearby. 1.8 At first, this level will be just as the title says. Several small squads of aliens, with a slighty larger
and tougher leader, will approach from different directions. Soon though, you will simply be surrounded by several
squads at once if you aren't careful. 1.9 Nearly the same as 1.5, here you will have to deal with 3 spawners at once to begin with. 4 more will show up
after the first ones are destroyed. Try to concentrate on the spawners, but be careful of all the enemies they will
produce while you are trying to do so. 1.10 The final battle of section 1, and the first boss of the game. The shots he fires are slow enough to avoid, but
he seems almost impossible to kill. Hit him as much as you can before lots of additional spiders start showing up
from all sides. Focus on them to protect yourself and also to get a better weapon you will need to defeat the boss. 2.1 It's time for spiders, spiders, and more spiders! Hundreds of them, in many different sizes, colors, and speeds.
No advice for this one except to get a good weapon and stay on the move. 2.2 More spawners to deal with in this level, and this time they are not quite as obvious as before. At the start,
there will be 4 small ones near the far corners of the map. While you are busy with those, a big one and 4 more
small ones will appear in a group at the center of the map to catch you off guard. 2.3 Again, more spawners and spiders. 5 big ones will begin materialising in a line, towards the top of the screen
from where you start. Hammer on the first one and it's offspring until it gives you a better weapon. Take out the
rest of the line, then head to the lower part of the map. 5 more big ones will appear there as well. After this,
a line of 8 small ones will show up in the middle of the map. 2.4 You will begin this map with spiders coming in from the left and aliens from the right. This assault will start
with a few and soon become many at once. About the time that happens, 4 big spawners will appear in the far corners
of the map. Soon after that, 4 more will show up in the same places, sometimes on top of the one that is already
there. 2.5 The most important thing to remember about this map is not to move from the place you start at. This is basically
the same as 1.3 except there will be a row of alien enemies appearing at once instead of one at a time. Conveniently,
you'll be equipped with a gauss rifle right from the beginning, so you can take out whole lines of enemies with one
shot as long as you don't move. 2.6 Another tough survival quest, this time against zombies. It seems simple enough as they are slow moving, but in a
very short time there will be hundreds of them coming in from all directions. You WILL be surrounded, so try and find
a weapon with lots of splash damage or a fast reload time. 2.7 As soon as the level begins, small spawners will begin to appear starting towards the upper left. One after
another, they build into a sort-of spiral winding, around clockwise. Start hitting the first one with the
submachinegun you are provided with, then try to follow the line around, destroying them in the same order. There are
more than 20 of them total, and you'll have a huge pack of enemies to contend with if you don't take the spawners out
quickly. As if that wasn't enough, there are also 4 more spawners, 2 big and 2 small, near the corners of the
map that you'll need to deal with before it's over. 2.8 At the start of this map, a small spawner will appear towards the upper left corner. A large group of tiny red
aliens will pour out of it into a surrounding circle. After that, the same spawner will begin producing lizards to
come after you. The trick here is to NOT kill the spawner quickly as you've done in previous levels. Killing
the spawners in this map sets the horde of tiny red aliens free. These are VERY fast and will kill you in a second
when they catch you. Instead, shoot as many of the little red ones and lizards as you need to, to get a decent
weapon, then make sure most of the red ones are dead before killing the spawner! There will be 4 of these
spawners total, one in each corner of the map. Just repeat the same process while keeping the lizards under control
and the level is pretty simple to beat. 2.9 The first part of this level confronts you with several squads of some tough and almost invisible aliens, led by
one that is lighter colored and easy to see, (with a few little red guys thrown in to make things more interesting).
The trick here is to kill that leader, then the rest of the squad will just drop dead in it's tracks. The second
part will have another larger troop of ghost aliens and a greenish yellow leader. You need to do the opposite now,
and kill off the pack before the leader. These ghost aliens are well disciplined and won't move far from their
formation, so you can take your time doing this. If you kill their leader first, they will break ranks and come after
you, and likely finish you off quickly. 2.10 Like the 80's arcade game * it was inspired by, this boss splits into 2 smaller ememies when you do enough damage to
it, then each of those splits 2 more, and each of those into 2 more, and so on. It will do this six times before it's
reduced to it's smallest form and can be killed, and each level smaller is also faster than the one above. This means
that one of these can become a real mess to fight with very quickly, and you'll be taking on three of them to beat
this level. The best way I can suggest for this battle is to work on one stage at a time. A pack of fast moving
small ones is much more dangerous than one or two slow moving big ones. Break one into two, then focus on just one of
those until it's split enough times for you to kill it before tackling the other half.

3.1 |
A couple of the little red aliens will try to rush you when this level begins. Keep an eye out for more of them doing the same thing. Search around and look for the 4 spawners in the corners to destroy. While you are doing this, there will also be line after line of aliens and lizards coming at you from the top, bottom and sides of the screen. |
|
3.2 |
The lizards in this level seem to randomly appear in no particular pattern. Some are larger and tougher to kill, but basically, just stay on the move and watch out for ones that materialise right in front of you and it's a fairly easy map to finish. |
|
3.3 |
This level puts you first against large groups of enemies coming at you from all sides. After that, groups of 3 big spawners start appearing all over the map, some right next to each other and in no particular order. You'll need a fast and powerful weapon to fight off the hordes of enemies while searching out the spawner clusters to eliminate. Probably you will die many times, but keep at it! |
|
3.4 |
Here is the only place in the game where you will fight enemies that are totally invisible, along with some cool looking purple aliens that are also semi-transparent. Fortunately, every time I play this level, the "monster vision" perk is always among the first you can choose. This makes it a lot easier since the invisible monsters will then show up clearly as glowing yellow dots. |
|
3.5 |
As you might have guessed, you'll be facing a lot of lizards in this map. There are 20 small spawners that will appear in a square. The goal should be easy to figure out by now: Avoid the enemies and wipe out the spawners, then clean up anything left over. |
|
3.6 |
Yet again, another level where you must survive against a massive onslaught of enemies. This time it will be hundreds of lizards after you. Stay on the move and carve a path to try and keep from being surrounded. |
|
3.7 |
Here you will meet the yellow spiders. These aren't really any tougher than other spiders, but they move faster and they come in large numbers here. Once you kill the few normal spiders, waves of the yellow ones will start arriving from the top and bottom of the map, so stay near the middle and watch your back to get through this level. |
|
3.8 |
This level is strange in that it starts off like it's going to be another "destroy the spawners" quest. There are only 3 little spawners though, and then it's just a survival quest against a swarm of lizards. |
|
3.9 |
You will recognise this level as being the same game as 1.3 and 2.5 only you will be having target practice with lines of spawners instead. As you did before, just stay in the place you start and aim that gauss rifle around quickly to finish without taking a scratch. |
|
3.10 |
These large blue zombies seem impossible to kill at first. They walk around and create other normal zombies. I think the zombie master only dies after you kill all the others he spawns, but I'm not sure about this. |
|
4.1 |
You start this snowy looking map with a rocket minigun, which works very well to play this level through with. Here there are tons of green aliens trying to make you have a bad day. Keep feeding them as many rockets as they can eat and eventually they will leave you alone. |
|
4.2 |
Just as the name indicates, this level is another massive assault of nothing but loads and loads of zombies. |
|
4.3 |
The lizards have made an arrangement with the zombies to protect their nests in this scenario. They should have found better allies though, as the zombies are way too slow and few in number to do a good job. The lizard spawners will appear near the middle of the map, so don't stray too far away chasing zombies or you will be up to your neck in lizards as well. At first there will be 3, then later 5, then 7, and finally 9 spawners at once. Destroy them quickly when they appear and this level is easy to beat. |
|
4.4 |
Another huge battle awaits you in this level. Aliens, lizards, spiders, and zombies will all appear in large groups at the same time. What a mess! This is serious challenge with the different speeds of the enemies, but it's still just the same quest to survive. |
|
4.5 |
This level has a combination of zombies and those fast moving red aliens. All of the enemies come from the right, so you don't need to watch your back as much if you stay on top of the situation. The little red ones start coming in larger and larger numbers, thus presenting the greatest challenge of this map. Pay attention and watch out for those guys, and you can almost ignore the zombies. |
|
4.6 |
Here is another spawner chasing level that can be quite vicious. Starting in the upper right corner, 40 big and small spawners begin forming a large square that takes up nearly the whole map. As it progresses, lizards and aliens hatch to protect the growing complex. Stay after it as best you can while watching behind you. When the square finishes, another spawner will appear in the center, and parts of the square you have already wasted will reappear again, so be sure to keep an eye on the perimeter. |
|
4.7 |
As soon as this level begins, a circle of 10 big spawners will start building around you. Move out and away as soon as you can, then start gunning down the spiders that are coming out. At the same time as the spiders are gathering in numbers, zombies will start wandering in from the far edges of the map to come up behind you. A powerful weapon with a wide damage spread is needed for this battle. At about half way through, another larger circle of 16+ big spawners will materialise around the first to make matters worse. |
|
4.8 |
This level is a spawner nightmare! At least 20 to 30 big spawners will start appearing at random locations all over the map, spilling out a massive amount of creatures intent on your doom. Get a big gun and stay on the move, taking out spawners as you find them while cutting down the bloodthirsty horde. |
|
4.9 |
A couple of red aliens will try to rush you from the left at the start of this level, while two rows of giant spawners are being built along the far right side of the map. There will be 12 of these spawners to blast, and then a few more will appear to replace some of them. Gauss and energy weapons work well for this. |
|
4.10 |
Here we meet the nasty red spiders. These guys shoot an energy bolt that can be dodged, but there will be so many of them it is a good idea to take them out first. In the center of the map will be a cluster of spawners producing aliens to add to the fun. When the first 7 spawners are gone, another 6 will take their place. It seems if you don't kill the huge red spawner in the middle, then 12 new ones will appear instead of just six. While you are busy with those, a second wave of red spiders will charge in to try and stop you. |
|
5.1 |
The first yellow alien you kill will drop a submachinegun every time. Then a large force of tiny green aliens and larger leaders will charge in from the right. There doesn't seem to be any special trick here, just try to keep your distance while gunning them down. After several groups like this, another team of ghost-like aliens will approach from the bottom. |
|
5.2 |
More zombies again. This time they will materialise in increasing numbers at random places near the center of the map. As the level progresses, two more groups will come in like waves from the sides before the level ends. |
|
5.3 |
This difficult level starts out like it's going to be another spawner chase. 7 small ones will form a line down the right side of the map and start turning loose aliens. When that's finished, the actual fortress appears. This is a solid 6x6 block of big spawners, releasing a huge swarm of spiders. The best strategy I can think of for this battle is to keep moving and firing around the perimeter. Take out the spiders that get in your way, and blast at the spawners whenever you get a shot. It takes a long time, but eventually you will cut it down to size. |
|
5.4 |
Nothing at all special about this level, just more of the same. Squads of aliens with larger leaders will approach from both sides. Keep moving and shooting until you are the only thing left that is moving. |
|
5.5 |
One more huge zombie assault that will come from the left. This one has quite a few larger green zombies that are tough to kill, but no more dangerous than the droves of smaller ones. ( I wonder what kind of undead these are, that they are four times the size of the player?) |
|
5.6 |
Some new enemies will come at you from the left in this level. You will probably see the projectiles they fire before the red spiders themselves. These can be avoided as long as you are not parallel to a line of them firing at once. Try to destroy them early before they become too much of a nuisance. There will be two or more waves of them before they stop arriving, so wait to take them out before focussing the other enemies. The others will consist of a few normal spiders wandering around, as well as 2 of the big spideroids to contend with. once the red spiders are out of the picture, this level is the same as 2.10 and can be finished the same way. |
|
5.7 |
As in level 2.9, the trick here is to concentrate on the big grey leaders of the squads. The smaller green ones will all drop dead once their leader dies. It all starts out simple enough, but quickly it becomes a death trap. From the top and bottom of the map, several of these squads will converge on your position at the same time. It's nearly impossible to avoid being surrounded, so focus on one side where the 3 leaders are closest together and you can hurt them all at once. If you are successful, half of the map will open up and give you some room to breath. |
|
5.8 |
Get ready for another all-out, coming at you from all sides, invasion survival quest. If you made it this far then you already know the drill. The only difference this time is that all the creatures are blue. How artistic! |
|
5.9 |
You begin this maddening level surrounded by 12(?) spiders that materialise in a circle. No matter how far I move from the start position, they seem to always appear around me. A larger circle of (?) appears around the first soon after. Next begins a massive onslaught of lizards from the four corners of the map. Don't stay in the center or you'll be surrounded. (You probably will be anyway!) Move towards one of the four sides instead. This should bring all the enemies into one point. Keep backing into open territory and pounding on that point with everything you have. Phase 3 begins with 2 columns of (?) big spider spawners forming to the left and right sides. There will probably still be lizards after you, so watch out for them, but focus your attention and firepower on the 2 big red spider spawners that appear at the middle top and bottom. Once that's done, you should have the battle down to just normal spiders and their spawners. |
|
5.10 |
This is it at last, the final quest of the game. As the title suggests, you will encounter nearly every type of enemy here, including all the bosses you've previously beaten. The only pleasant surprise in this level is that there are no spawners or enemies that simply appear out of nowhere. This is just one enormous struggle for survival. By now, you know what to do. Defend your territory and claim more wherever you can. Keep moving, and planning where to move next, and keep blasting away. When it's over the land will be painted crimson, but it will be all yours. |
